Liston B. Ramsey Award

Liston B. Ramsey was a distinguished politician and a true champion of the Democratic Party in Madison County. Born in Mars Hill, Ramsey dedicated his life to public service serving thirty-eight years in the North Carolina House of Representatives. For eight of those years, he served as Speaker of the House, and he is one of the longest-serving speakers in North Carolina history.

Throughout his time in office, Ramsey fought tirelessly for causes that mattered deeply to Madison County. He was a staunch advocate for education, and he championed legislation that protected the natural beauty of the Jewel of the Blue Ridge. Ramsey's legacy continues to inspire and guide us as we work together for the common good of all people and the preservation of nature’s beauty.

As Madison County Democrats, we are honored to follow in the footsteps of leaders like Liston B. Ramsey, and we honor Madison County Democrats that reflect Ramsey’s dedication and values.
